Method of worship in Diwali
There is a special Lakshmi Puja ritual on Diwali. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi, the destroyer of obstacles, Lord Ganesha and Mother Saraswati are worshiped during the auspicious times of afternoon and evening. According to the Puranas, on the dark night of Kartik Amavasya, Mahalakshmi herself comes to earth and visits all the houses. During this time, she partially stays in a house that is clean and bright in every way. Therefore, by cleansing and worshiping according to Diwali rituals, one obtains the special blessings of Goddess Mahalakshmi.
Before worshiping Lakshmi on the day of Diwali, clean the house and purify the entire house with Ganges water. Place Rangoli and lamps at the entrance of the house. Place a stool at the place of worship, spread a red cloth and place the idols of Lakshmi ji and Ganesh ji on it or place an image of Lakshmi ji on the wall. Light one large lamp and 11 or 21 small lamps near it. Keep an urn filled with water near the post.
