VATICAN CITY, Saturday, October 19, 2024 (REI) Pope Francis met, on October 18, 2024, at the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican, with Mr. Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, who later met with the Vatican. Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin also met with Vatican Foreign Secretary Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

During the cordial conversations held at the Secretariat of State, the good relations between the Holy See and Liberia were discussed, as well as cooperation with the Catholic Church in the fields of education and health, and some aspects of the social and economic situation of the country. .

During the conversations there was also an exchange of opinions on current international events, with special attention to the regional situation and migration events.

At the end of the meeting, Pope Francis presented President Boakai with a bronze sculpture representing a dove carrying an olive branch, with the inscription in Italian “Siete Messageri di Pache” (“Become a messenger of peace”).

The Pope gave the Liberian president a copy of his “Message of Peace” and his documents for this year.
