Lucknow. Violence broke out last Sunday over the poll at Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Four people were killed and more than 20 injured in the violence. Before Friday prayers, police are deployed in every corner of the city.
A heavy police force has been deployed in Sambhal today. 15 PAC companies and 2 RAF companies are deployed in the city. Police from 10 districts patrol the area. Police officers are deployed with body cameras in sensitive areas of the city. Article 163 applies. It is prohibited to gather more than four people. Internet service is temporarily closed. Namaz is not allowed outside Jama Masjid. According to officials, worship is only allowed inside the mosque.
An official said only local people can enter Jama Masjid. Metal detectors have been installed at all doors of the mosque. There are police deployed on the roofs of nearby houses. More than 50 suspicious people have been arrested.
Regarding Sambhal’s Shahi Jama Masjid, the Hindu side claims that there was a Harihar temple here earlier. The court had ordered an investigation into the matter. The recognition of the mosque began at 7 a.m. last Sunday. The survey work was completed in approximately two hours. Meanwhile, a crowd gathered in front of the mosque.
