There is such a fight among farmers in the district regarding DAP that farmers leave their houses even at night and queue up to get DAP. Women are also not left behind in taking DAP. According to the Agriculture Department report, considering the area sown under wheat, around 26,000 tonnes of DAP fertilizer are required across the district and more than 15,600 tonnes of fertilizer have been made available to farmers so far. In such a situation, they are fighting for 11 thousand metric tons of DAP.
On Sunday, 1,600 bags of DAP fertilizer were made available to farmers in Safidon block, 1,000 bags were made available to farmers in Pillukheda block and 1,200 bags were made available to other private shops and sales centres. On Sunday, 1,986 bags of DAP fertilizer arrived in Julana, but as more farmers arrived, they had to return empty-handed and without the fertilizer. The fight in Julana over the DAP was so intense that it had to be divided at the Julana police station.
The shortage of DAP fertilizer in the Julana area shows no signs of abating. Despite queuing for hours, farmers are forced to return empty-handed. On Sunday, when HAFED employees arrived with a vehicle carrying DAP fertilizer, there were long queues of farmers in front of the police station. The police also had to work hard to control the crowd. Farmers do not receive fertilizers according to their needs. So farmers are facing problems. Fertilizers are arriving less and less and, due to greater demand, farmers’ problems are increasing.
Although 1,986 bags of DAP fertilizer arrived in Julana on Sunday, when more farmers arrived, they had to return empty-handed and without the fertilizer. Farmers demand that fertilizers be provided as soon as possible before sowing wheat. Raju, HAFED purchasing center manager, said 1,986 bags of DAP fertilizer had arrived at Julana. In view of the farmers’ uproar, fertilizer was distributed at the police station. Fertilizer was distributed at the police station keeping in mind the security measures at the HAFED procurement centre. Having more bags generates more cash. The manure has been distributed at the police station only for security reasons.
