Calcutta. Trinamool Congress candidates have taken an unassailable lead in the counting of votes that began at 8 am on Saturday for the by-elections to six assembly constituencies in West Bengal. Voting for the by-elections for these six seats was held on November 13 and the voting percentage was 69.29. Five of these constituencies are in Trinamool Congress strongholds in south Bengal, while Madarihat remains a BJP stronghold in the northern part of the state. The CPI(M)-led Left Front and the Congress fought separately in the by-elections for the first time since 2021. In the Scheduled Caste (SC) constituency of Sitai, Trinamool’s Sangeeta Roy is ahead of her rival nearest and BJP candidate Deepak Kumar. Ray by a margin of 60,493 votes. Roy has so far obtained 73,452 votes and Ray 12,959 votes. In the Scheduled Tribe (ST) Madarihat seat, Trinamool’s Jayaprakash Toppo is leading with 39,353 votes, while BJP’s Rahul Lohar got 21,375 votes. This seat was won by the BJP in the 2021 assembly elections. In Naihati, Trinamool’s Sanat Dey leads with 40,663 votes, while his rival and BJP candidate Rupak Mitra got 15,461 votes. In Haroa, Trinamool’s SK Rabiul Islam leads with 48,107 votes. votes, while his rival Piyarul Islam of the All India Secular Front got 6,441 votes. He is followed by Trinamool’s Sujoy Hazra in Medinipur with 32,777 votes. He is ahead of BJP’s Subhajit Roy (Bunty) by a margin of 11,398 votes. Roy got 21,379 votes. In Taldangra, Trinamool’s Falguni Singhababu is leading with 17,280 votes. He has a lead of 6,324 votes over BJP’s Ananya Roy Chakraborty. Ananya got 10,956 votes.
