The numbers for the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections are almost clear. In these elections held on 288 seats, all eyes were on the victory and defeat of the great leaders. Many important faces were presented during the elections, some of whom saved their reputations, while others suffered a crushing defeat.
Former Chief Minister of the state and current Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis registered a spectacular victory from the Nagpur South West seat. He kept his hold strong by defeating Prafulla Gudadhe of Congress. Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde won from the Kopri-Pachpakhadi seat. He defeated Kedar Dighe of Shiv Sena (UBT). State Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar won the Baramati seat. He defeated Yugendra Pawar of NCP (Sharad Pawar faction).

Prithviraj Chavan’s defeat
Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had to face defeat from the Karad South seat. BJP’s Atul Bhosale defeated Chavan by a margin of 39,000 votes. This result is considered a big blow for Congress. Congress’s Nanabhau Patole, who was in the fray from Sakoli, was trailing BJP’s Avinash Brahmankar. But in the subsequent recount Nanabhau managed to save the seat. Chhagan Bhujbal of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) saved his credibility by defeating Manikrao Shinde of the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) from the Yeola seat.

Shayna NC’s defeat, Sana Malik’s victory
Former BJP leader Shaina NC, who was contesting on the Shiv Sena ticket this time, had to face defeat. He was defeated by Congress leader Amin Patel. At the same time, Sana Malik, daughter of NCP leader Nawab Malik, won the elections. He confirmed his assembly seat by defeating Fahad Ahmed of the NCP (Sharad faction).

What happened to Sanjay Nirupam?
Former Congress leader and now Shinde faction member Sanjay Nirupam was contesting from the Dindoshi seat this time. His competition was against Sunil Vaman Prabhu of Shiv Sena (UBT). Nirupam lost the election from Dindoshi seat. NCP leader Nawab Malik had to face defeat from the Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar seat. Abu Asim Azmi of the Samajwadi Party defeated him by a wide margin.

Zeeshan Siddiqui also lost
NCP’s Zeeshan Baba Siddiqui was defeated by Shiv Sena’s (UBT) Varun Sardesai in the Vandre East seat. Zeeshan is the son of late NCP leader Baba Siddiqui. On the other hand, Raj Thackeray’s son Amit Thackeray lost the election from the Mahim seat, while his cousin Aditya Thackeray won from the Worli seat. Aditya defeated Milind Deora of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction).
The NDA won the elections to the 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly. The NDA has 233 seats, of which the BJP managed to retain 132 seats and the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) managed to retain 57 seats. At the same time, India Block had to make do with just 49 seats. Shiv Sena (UBT) has 20 seats, Congress 16 and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) 10 seats. 6 seats have gone to other parties and independent candidates.
