The Israeli military said Saturday it killed Jaafar Khader Faour, the top commander of Hezbollah’s Nasser Brigade rocket unit, in the Jawiya area of southern Lebanon. Faour’s command also oversaw rocket attacks against Israel from eastern Lebanon. Meanwhile, according to a Times of Israel report, Israeli Navy commandos carried out a raid in northern Lebanon late Friday night and captured a senior Hezbollah official. It occurred approximately 140 kilometers (87 miles) north of Israel’s maritime border with Red Lebanon. The IDF confirmed on Saturday night that the Navy’s Shayetet 13 commando unit was involved in the operation.
The name of the captured Hezbollah agent is Imad Amhaj. According to the IDF, he is a very important member of Hezbollah’s navy. Amhaj is being interrogated by the Israeli military and aims to obtain information about Hezbollah’s naval operations. Hezbollah issued a statement calling the incident a Zionist attack in the Batroun area. But he did not confirm whether any of its members had been captured by the Israel Defense Forces or not.
