Delivery by drone… Until a few years ago it seemed like a dream, but now it has become a reality. Drones are used in many sectors across the country. Furthermore, these services are also gradually expanding. Now drones are used for food delivery and even letter delivery.
Food delivery is done using drones in many places in Gurugram adjacent to Delhi. Approval has been received to start this service in many places. The Department of Posts has also started using drones to deliver letters in remote areas.
Last month, the Department of Posts had given information in this regard. The department said the drone service was tested between two post offices in Arunachal Pradesh. For this, the Department of Posts has tied up with SKYE AIR Mobility Private Limited.
Can drones bring a new revolution?
This all sounds very fascinating, but very few people know how it works. Many people wonder what will happen if a drone delivery is hijacked along the way. Or some people wonder if these drones will make deliveries right to their apartment balcony.
For this we spoke to Ankit Kumar, CEO of SKYE Air. Ankit said that drones are fully set to revolutionize the delivery sector. Especially in those areas that are difficult to access, such as remote towns or mountainous areas.

‘This technology not only speeds up the delivery of essential items such as medicines, food and important documents. Rather, it also reduces dependence on the road network. This will reduce vehicles on the roads. The use of drones could prove revolutionary, especially in the healthcare sector, where timely delivery is critical to saving lives.
Is this service automated or does someone operate these drones?
Companies like SKYE Air use high-tech automated systems and mapping technologies like Sky UTM (Unmanned Traffic Management) for drone delivery. Drones follow predetermined routes using GPS and AI, making them autonomous. This whole process includes loading the package on the drone, then flying the drone to the destination and receiving the package at the lost point.

These drones are monitored for security reasons. A minimum of humans is required in this entire process. These drones can be managed easier and better through AI and IoT.
How cost-effective or expensive is drone delivery compared to humans?
The cost of drone delivery is typically lower than traditional delivery methods. If you use them for last mile delivery, it will cost you less. However, this process does not include investment in drone technology. To do this you have to make a good investment, which then reduces the shipping cost.
Drone deliveries mainly cost between Rs 30 and Rs 40 per delivery, which is less than normal shipping charges. Sky Air’s experience shows that drones can reduce delivery time by up to 80%, making them profitable in the long term. These are beneficial in areas where traditional delivery methods are expensive or disorganized.
What effect will this service have on people’s employment?
Automation is a cause of concern for those working in any industry. This will affect the jobs of traditional delivery drivers. If you think long term, it will change the way work is done and create new jobs. This includes aspects such as drone development, maintenance, data analysis and logistics management.
Drones do not deliver goods on their own in any society. Rather, it delivers the goods to the nearest landing site, from where the skywalkers carry the goods to the door. The term sky walker is used for those people who carry merchandise to the last kilometer in deliveries made via drones.
That means we give to society. This will also be a new job. This means that the use of drones will affect people’s jobs, but in return new jobs will be created in many other sectors. This will give new people the opportunity to work in different fields.
