Kalpana Soren
Kalpana Soren’s face appeared in the media for the first time outside the casualty office in Ranchi on the night of January 31, 2024. Kalpana had reached here with food and medicine for her husband Hemant Soren, who was arrested by Enforcement Directorate officials in a land scam just a few hours ago.
About 300 days after this incident i.e. on November 23, 2024, another image of Kalpana came out from Ranchi Airport. This image was shared by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha CEO and Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Hemant shared Kalpana’s photo writing, “Welcome to our star activist.”
After this, Hemant Soren, who came to give a press conference about the victory, made Kalpana sit next to him. It is said in political circles that with this step Hemant has given a great message inside and outside the party.
Kalpana also joined the race for the Chief Minister’s post.
At present, Hemant Soren himself may become the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, but the way Kalpana’s training and results have been, JMM is said to have groomed a leading CM candidate for the future.
By the time Hemant went to prison in January 2024, the Soren family did not have any recognized faces. Due to this, Champai Soren was made Chief Minister, but before the elections, Champai changed course.
People associated with JMM say Kalpana is now ready to take charge in any adverse situation. Hemant is currently out on bail. The Emergency Department is investigating against him.
How did CM’s wife become CM material?
1. Kalpana decided to enter politics before the Lok Sabha elections. During the Lok Sabha elections, Kalpana decided to leave the organization’s work and go among the people. At that time Champai Soren was the Chief Minister of the state. Kalpana started a campaign to get justice for Hemant in Jharkhand during the Lok Sabha elections.
Kalpana used to hold 3-4 rallies daily for this. Kalpana used to campaign late at night from his own seat in Gandey. Kalpana’s hard work paid off and the Indian Alliance won all the tribal-dominated seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
2. Hemant Soren was granted bail immediately after the Lok Sabha elections. Hemant occupied the Chief Minister’s chair. During this period, Kalpana remained busy with small tasks of the organization. In the month of August, Kalpana started a campaign for women.
Kalpana kept women leaders with her during this period. This Kalpana rally remained in the headlines. JMM had named this demonstration as Mainiyan Samman.
3. Kalpana contested the assembly elections on behalf of her husband Hemant. Kalpana started holding 5 or 5 rallies a day. According to JMM, Kalpana participated in more than 100 protests during the Jharkhand elections. Kalpana kept respect for women and tribal identity at the center of her speech.
Kalpana’s popularity increased due to his ability to speak the local language and reach people easily. Kalpana stayed away from negative and controversial statements throughout the campaign.
4. When Hemant Soren went to jail, his sister-in-law was the female face of the party. Sita Soren also held the post of Central General Secretary within the JMM, but before the Lok Sabha elections, Sita switched sides. Sita joined the BJP.
Kalpana’s path became easier when Sita joined the BJP. Sita Soren’s husband Durga Soren was once considered Shibu Soren’s political successor.

Kalpana, originally from Mayurbhanjan, Odisha, was born in Kapurthala, Punjab. Kalpana did her primary education at Kendriya Vidyalaya. Kalpana also holds engineering and MBA degrees. Before entering politics, Kalpana used to work in the field of education.
Kalpana and Hemant got married in the year 2006. In the 2024 by-election, Kalpana had contested from Gandey seat. She was elected MLA by winning from here. This time too Kalpana has reached the House after winning against Gandey.
According to the Election Commission, Kalpana is richer than her husband Hemant Soren. Kalpana’s total wealth is more than Rs 5 crore, while Hemant’s total wealth is around Rs 2.59 crore.
