Leadless pacemaker implantation gives new life to 52-year-old man

Chandigarh News|Chandigarh: A 52-year-old man suffering from a severe infection got a new life with the successful implantation of Micra leadless pacemaker at Max Super Specialty Hospital under the guidance of Interventional Cardiologist Dr Ishtiaq Masood. The patient came to Max in critical condition and the infection had spread through his bloodstream, endangering his life.

Dr Ishtiaq Masood said the patient came with frank pus in the right side pacemaker pocket, ECG and ECHO LVF changes of 40-45%. “The next day, we successfully performed the implantation of a leadless pacemaker, without incisions or stitches. The patient responded remarkably well to the procedure and was discharged just one day after surgery. Now he is recovering without complications and is ready to resume his daily activities.”

Micra is the smallest pacemaker in the world. The Micra is implanted directly into the heart. The patient does not even feel that something has been implanted in his body. Patients with Micra leadless pacemakers can quickly resume their usual activities. The procedure is safe, tested and approved for use with MRI scanners. Patients can use mobile phones and household appliances without problems. Additionally, the expected battery life is long. This device is inserted in a simple way that does not leave scars. Unlike traditional pacemakers, it does not damage heart tissue in any way.
