The results of the by-elections held in six West Bengal assembly seats will be declared today. The counting of votes continues. The ruling Trinamool Congress, i.e. TMC candidates, are ahead in all these seats.

  6. Taldangra: TMC’s Falguni Singhababu is ahead by 20,273 votes and BJP’s Ananya Roy Chakraborty is trailing.

What is the seating equation?

Let us tell you that of these 6, five seats are in the TMC stronghold in South Bengal, while Madarihat is creating a saffron stronghold in the northern part of the state. This seat was won by the BJP in 2021. Its assembly constituencies fell vacant after the resignation of the MLAs who won seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. After this, by-elections were necessary. In the by-elections held on November 13, around 69.29 percent of the votes were obtained.

Lok Sabha electoral performance

Earlier, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool Congress had dealt a heavy blow to the BJP. Then TMC had won 29 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal. The BJP had won 12 seats here. This performance of the BJP was worse than the performance in the Lok Sabha elections held in 2019. At the same time, the Congress had gained one seat.
