Congress candidate Mukesh Malhotra has won the by-election to the Vijaypur assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh. The Congress candidate defeated ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and minister Ramniwas Rawat by a margin of 7,364 votes.
He has won from Congress 6 times.
Ramniwas Rawat had won the 2023 assembly elections as a Congress candidate but later joined the BJP. After this, he was appointed Forest Minister in the Mohan Yadav government. Rawat had won from Vijaypur seat in Sheopur district as a Congress candidate in 1990, 1993, 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2023.
Congress made this accusation.
Madhya Pradesh Congress unit president Jitu Patwari alleged that the BJP lost Vijaypur even after distributing Rs 50 crore to woo voters. Patwari said in a post on social media platform ‘X’, “Vijaypur victory is the victory of Congress workers, who faced all kinds of torture.” He faced police accusations and lawsuits, but stood his ground.
Police and administration did the work of BJP workers – Congress
In addition to this, he alleged that the entire system, including the district magistrate, superintendent of police and other officials, as well as BJP-supported goons, thieves and mafias, were against the Congress. Patwari said, ‘The police and administration did the work of BJP workers. False cases were filed against members of Congress, innocent people were sent to jail for no reason. More than 50 crore rupees were distributed to woo the voters, but the workers stood firm like lions and gave this victory to the Congress.
Congress leader Jitu Patwari said this is the victory of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution and the party workers. There is a wave of happiness among Congress workers after the victory in Vijaypur seat. The workers celebrated the victory by playing drums and handing out sweets.
