Islamabad: Pakistani authorities are making efforts to arrest former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, who is in prison for failing to appear in court in an alleged £190 million corruption case. According to ‘Express Tribune’, rigor is being taken following the decision issued by the accountability court on November 22. Arrest warrants were issued for Bushra because he remained absent from eight consecutive hearings.

Justice Nasir Javed Rana has rejected his plea for exemption from appearing before the court. Officials said that following the directive, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) asked its Rawalpindi team to arrest Bushra Bibi. Bushra Bibi is believed to live in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, is in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

‘Express Tribune’ reported that a NAB team had gone to Peshawar with the police on November 23, but had to return empty-handed. Authorities said when the team showed the arrest warrant at Bushra Bibi’s house, it was discovered that she was not present in the house.

Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are accused of misappropriating 50 billion Pakistani rupees (£190 million), which was returned to Pakistan by Britain’s National Crime Agency under a deal with a property businessman. . The money was intended for the national treasury, but was used for the personal benefit of the businessman who had helped Bushra and Khan establish the university.
