The situation worsened in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan: 37 people died in 24 hours; many people were injured

Peshawar: At least 37 people have been killed and several more injured in the past 24 hours in violence between tribal groups in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The police gave information about it on Saturday. Violence broke out between the Alizai and Bagan tribal groups after an attack on a passenger van on Thursday in Kurram district, bordering Afghanistan. In the attack on the passenger van, 47 people died.

Senior administration and police officials arrived in the area by helicopter. An official told media here: “So far, at least 37 people have been killed.” The death toll continues to rise, he said, adding that more than 30 people have been injured. Residents of tribal communities attack each other using automatic weapons. Houses and shops were the target of violence, after which people from several villages moved to safer places. As the situation worsened, all educational institutions in the district were closed for Saturday, confirmed Muhammad Hayat Hasan, president of the ‘Private Education Network’.

On Thursday, more than 50 vehicles were attacked by gunfire in Bagan, Manduri and Ochhat. Police officials said 47 people, including women and children, died in this. He said the majority of those killed were from the Shiite community. (Language)
