- Uttar Pradesh govt must keep peace: court
Sambhal Mosque Row, (Aaj Samaj), New Delhi: The Supreme Court has stayed the lower court proceedings in the Sambhal Masjid dispute in Uttar Pradesh. A bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar today heard the petition filed by the mosque committee against the direction of the civil court. The court directed the trial court not to pursue the case until the Sambhal Shahi Jama Masjid Committee approached the Allahabad High Court.
in which permission was granted to inspect the mosque to verify whether it was built on the ruins of a temple. On November 24, four people were killed in Sambhal and several others, including police officers, were injured in the violence that broke out during the poll.
