This time, the participation of women voters in the Maharashtra Assembly elections has attracted everyone’s attention. A total of 3 crore 34 lakh 37 thousand 57 men, 3 crore 6 lakh 49 thousand 318 women and 1,820 other voters voted. Although the number of male voters in the state is 30,26,460 more than that of women voters, in at least 12 assembly constituencies, women have voted more than men.

This participation of women voters could be important for Mahayuti, especially in coastal areas and Vidarbha. It will be interesting to see how this trend in the female vote affects the results of the November 23 (Saturday) elections.

Dominance of women voters

In areas like Nandurbar, women cast 94 more votes than men. Here 1,18,920 women voted compared to 1,18,826 men. The difference was even greater in Navapur, where women cast 1,808 more votes than men. In Vidarbha region, 1,13,415 women cast votes in Nagpur southwest seat, 2,316 more than the number of men (1,11,099). In Nagpur South this difference was 521 votes and in Nagpur West this difference was 483 votes.

In Chandgad, 1,23,918 women voted, 2,144 more than men (1,21,774). Women won again in Ratnagiri district. In Ratnagiri, 94,938 women voted, 4,287 more than men (90,651). 8,791 women in Guhagar, 4,739 in Dapoli and 700 in Shrivardhan voted more than men. This difference was greatest in Dahanu, where women cast 6,704 more votes than men.

Voting patterns of men and women

A total of 5,00,22,739 male voters were registered in the state, of which 3,34,37,057 voted. Thus, 1,65,85,682 men (33.15%) did not vote. At the same time, 4,69,96,279 women voters were registered, of which 3,06,49,318 exercised their right to vote. This means that 1,63,46,961 women (34.78%) did not vote.

In Maharashtra, the BJP has contested the elections on 149 seats, while Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena has fielded its candidates for 81 seats. Ajit Pawar’s NCP was in the fray with 59 seats. On the other hand, MVA Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar’s NCP contested 101, 95 and 86 seats.
