Chandigarh News: The Ombudsman Office of the Reserve Bank of India, Chandigarh organized a financial awareness program for the employees of Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), Mohali on November 22, 2024. The main objective of this program was to increase awareness of the Reserve Bank Lokpal Scheme among the participants and sensitize them about fraud in digital transactions. The program was mainly addressed by Shri Rajeev Dwivedi, Ombudsman, Reserve Bank.
In the programme, Lokpal sir highlighted to the participants the rights as well as responsibilities and duties of customers of banks and non-banking financial companies. In a more focused manner, participants were informed about the do’s and don’ts for secure digital banking such as not sharing OTP, account/card details, PIN, internet banking passwords, etc. Participants can access the ‘Sancharsaarthi’ website (https://www.sancharsaarthi.org) launched by the Government of India.gov.in) as a facility for citizens to report details of suspicious calls/phishing links.
Participants were asked to only use official apps, websites and call center numbers of the service providers. Through short videos, participants also learned about the “common methods” adopted by fraudsters to defraud innocent customers in the financial sector. Participants were asked to take precautions like updating KYC details on mobile, disconnecting power connection, blocking SIM card, credit card, etc. Great care should be taken when receiving messages when downloading or receiving links such as redeeming reward points on the card, job offers through Telegram, etc.
Similarly, any messages sent to recipients regarding sending funds to family members abroad should be processed only after proper confirmation.
