The ruling Mahayuti is making a strong comeback in the Maharashtra Assembly election results. There are a total of 288 seats in the state and Mahayuti has the lead with 220 seats so far. The opposition Mahavikas Aghadi has fallen behind and is limited to 54 seats. Now new discussions have started in Maharashtra on government formation. The BJP is ahead with a maximum of 128 seats. After that, 53 candidates from Shinde’s party and 36 candidates from Ajit Pawar’s party are ahead.
Meanwhile, the fight for the new Chief Minister in Mahayuti is becoming more intense. The statements of the leaders of the BJP and the Shinde Sena have heated up the atmosphere and debates on new and old equations have also started. Speculations have also started about the political future of Eknath Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar.
Will BJP become CM this time?
The question arises: Even though the BJP is emerging as the largest party, will it have its own Chief Minister this time or will the Bihar model be repeated in Maharashtra? Or will Eknath Shinde be appointed Chief Minister again?
After all, who will become the new CM?
Questions are also being raised whether Eknath Shinde will be rejected like BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis and whether a new face will be put in place in Maharashtra. All these questions are being raised today too because even during the assembly election campaign, the NDA did not declare the face of the CM and reiterated that it will be decided after the results.
It is also a fact that although the NDA did not declare its CM face in this election, Mahayuti spoke among the public about the development works done during Shinde’s tenure and Shinde was seen campaigning in the alliance as the most important face.
At present, answers to questions related to government formation after the results remain complicated and the suspense is expected to disappear soon. The final decision is expected to be taken with the consent of the BJP Parliamentary Board and the Shiv Sena-NCP high command.
Will we decide CM’s face together?
On electoral trends, Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde says that just as we have fought the elections together, the same way the face of the new CM will be decided. The high command, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will soon take a decision in this regard. Let us tell you that the BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP are included in the grand alliance.
What did the BJP-NCP leaders say?
Earlier, BJP MLC Praveen Darekar had said that we want to thank the people of Maharashtra for giving us such an important mandate. The younger sister (Yojana) did wonders. Sanjay Raut should understand the ground reality. We are going to cross the figure of 125 and I want the BJP to have its own Chief Minister in the state.
At the same time, after meeting Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske said this is a big victory for Mahayuti. Sanjay Raut has nothing more to say. Only Eknath Shinde should become CM. As a party worker, I want Eknath Shinde to become CM.
BJP failed to become CM despite being the largest party
In the 2019 elections, the BJP and Shiv Sena (undivided) contested the elections together. The BJP had won 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, NCP 54 and Congress 44 seats. Following the results, tension regarding the Chief Minister increased and Shiv Sena broke away from the BJP. Shiv Sena formed a new alliance (Maha Vikas Aghadi) with the NCP and Congress and formed the government under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray. After three years, there was a split in the Shiv Sena and the Eknath Shinde faction joined the BJP and the Uddhav government fell. Despite being the largest party, the BJP appointed Eknath Shinde as the new Chief Minister and a decision was taken to make the BJP’s most important face and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis the Deputy CM. The reasoning behind this was that the BJP wanted there to be a change of power in the state and that Uddhav Thackeray should be removed from the presidency.
This time too the BJP has the highest number of candidates ahead.
In the 2024 elections, the BJP, Eknath Shinde faction and Ajit Pawar faction jointly participated in the elections and the BJP had fielded maximum candidates for 152 seats. This time the BJP has fielded three fewer candidates than in 2019. That means 149 BJP candidates contested. While Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena gave tickets to 81 candidates and Ajit Pawar’s NCP gave tickets to 59 candidates. To have a majority in the state, it is necessary to touch the figure of 145. That is, according to the trends, the NDA has crossed the majority mark and the strike rate of the BJP is also considered tremendous. So far the BJP leads the elections with 127 seats.
Why is Nitish Kumar’s model being discussed in Maharashtra?
In fact, BJP and JDU had contested together in the 2020 assembly elections. When the results came, the BJP emerged as the largest party. The BJP won the elections with 74 seats. While the JDU had obtained 43 seats. Despite this, the BJP surprised by not giving any image of its party as Chief Minister and once again opted for Nitish Kumar.
Nitish Kumar will also be the face of the NDA in 2025
However, in 2022, Nitish became disillusioned and left the NDA and formed the government with the RJD alliance. The BJP remained in opposition. Just before the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Nitish again switched sides and joined the NDA. The NDA also elected JDU president Nitish Kumar as the leader of the House and Nitish holds the presidency as the Chief Minister of Bihar. The BJP has appointed two MPs in Bihar. Now, regarding the 2025 elections, the BJP has announced that it will contest the elections only on behalf of Nitish.
