(New Suzuki Alto) Ambala. Maruti Suzuki Alto is one of the best-selling cars in both the Japanese and Indian markets. The latest 9th generation Alto was launched in 2021. Recently, a report revealed that Suzuki could launch the new 10th generation Alto in Japan in 2026. Let’s find out what features the new Alto could have, its expected mileage and what its likely price will be.
It will be lighter than the current model.
Suzuki Alto has a long history – it was first launched in Japan in 1979 and introduced in India in 2000. The company is now working on its next-generation model. In early 2024, Suzuki announced that it was developing the 10th-generation Alto, which will be much lighter than the current version.
The weight of the new Alto is expected to be reduced by around 100kg, which will fall between 580kg and 660kg. Interestingly, the third-generation Alto also weighed 580kg, but it was from a different era. Today, buyers prioritize safety features in vehicles.
The new Alto is likely to use an upgraded version of the lightweight Heartect platform made from Ultra and Advanced High Strength Steel (UHSS and AHSS). This material is light and extremely resistant.
New generation Suzuki Alto: better mileage
Reports suggest that the new Alto will offer better fuel efficiency than the existing model. In Japan, the current Alto offers a mileage of 25.2 km/liter with the petrol variant and 27.7 km/liter with the mild hybrid variant.
The 10th generation Alto is expected to be powered by a 49 HP naturally aspirated gasoline engine and a 2 kW electric motor. Suzuki may integrate a 48V Super N charging system into the upcoming model. Additionally, efficient battery systems can also be introduced to increase engine power. Although official figures are yet to be revealed, the new Alto is expected to achieve mileage in excess of 30 km/l.
New generation Suzuki Alto: price
The current Suzuki Alto is priced at 1,068,000 yen (5.83 lakh) for the petrol variant and 1,218,800 yen (6.65 lakh) for the mild hybrid version. The starting price of the upcoming Alto is expected to be around 1 million yen (Rs 5.46 lakh).
