Kathmandu: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday visited the Muktinath temple located in Gandaki province of Nepal and offered prayers there. This temple has a special religious significance in both the Hindu and Buddhist religions. Sources in Nepal Army Headquarters said General Dwivedi also visited Nepal Army Western Division Headquarters in Pokhara where he was warmly received by Major General Santosh Ballabh Paudyal.

What is special is that a bell has been installed in this temple in honor of the late General Bipin Rawat, the first Chief of Defense Staff of India. In February 2023, a bell was installed here in memory of Bipin Rawat, symbolizing his contribution and services. General Rawat died in a helicopter crash in December 2021. This bell is known as ‘General Rawat Bell’, symbolizing the deep military ties between India and Nepal.
Five-day visit of the Army Chief
General Dwivedi arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday on a five-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Sigdel. General Dwivedi was awarded the honorary title of General of the Nepal Army by President Ramchandra Paudel. He also met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Defense Minister Manbir Rai on Friday and discussed issues of mutual interest. (Language)
