- Lok Sabha proceedings adjourned till noon
Updates from Winter Session of Parliament, (Aaj Samaj), New Delhi: On the fifth day of the winter session of Parliament, opposition MPs again continued their protest over the Adani bribery case, Sambhal, Manipur violence and other issues, after which Rajya Sabha proceedings were suspended for the day without any business. For now, the Lok Sabha proceedings have been adjourned till noon.
17 notices received today under Rule 267: President
Since the first day of the winter session (November 25), opposition deputies have been demanding a debate on the aforementioned issues. Soon after placing the listed documents on the table of the House in the morning session today, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said he had received 17 notices of adjournment of scheduled business under House Rule 267 .
Rejected notice, protest and slogans
The notices by the opposition MPs were to discuss allegations of corruption and irregularities against the Adani Group, communal violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal and caste conflicts in Manipur. The president said he rejects all the notices. Due to this, many opposition parliamentarians protested and started raising slogans.
Procedure postponed until December 2
Seeing that the uproar continued unabated, Jagdeep Dhankhar adjourned the House debates till December 2. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till afternoon following strong protests by opposition members over the Adani row and the recent violence in Sambhal. As soon as the debates began in the House, members of the opposition parties, including the Congress, tried to raise various issues. Some members, mostly from the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, entered the House premises and started raising slogans.
Only two questions can be raised in the Lok Sabha
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the House should be allowed to function and question hour is members’ time. He said people want the House to work and there should be discussion. Two questions were asked during the question hour which lasted about 10 minutes. As the noise continued, the procedure was postponed until the afternoon.
