Rickshaw rides are becoming the main mode of transportation in people’s lives. Thanks to its operation, people have started to save a lot of time. Compared to normal rickshaws, traveling in an e-rickshaw is very comfortable, but the government has now made it difficult for people to sit in an e-rickshaw. While earlier the e-rickshaw fare per kilometer was Rs 5 per kilometer, it has now been increased to Rs 8.30 per kilometer.
E-rickshaws are used to provide better and cheaper services to the people, but now the Uttar Pradesh government has increased the fare of e-rickshaws in the capital Lucknow. Now traveling by e-rickshaw has become much more expensive than before. The impact of this government decision will be directly felt in the lives of the people. In this regard, the Principal Secretary has written a letter to many officials, including the Commissioner of the Transport Department.
Electric rickshaw fare becomes Rs 8.30 per kilometer
The Chief Secretary has issued a notification informing about the increase in fees. It is written in the notification that the maximum fare per kilometer of e-rickshaw will be fixed at Rs 8.30. On one hand, rickshaw drivers will enjoy this decision. On the other hand, for common people living in Lucknow, the journey will be more difficult than before. Information is given in the notification that by March 2024, around six and a half lakh e-rickshaws have been registered across the state. Now their number has increased even more.

In Uttar Pradesh, many rickshaws ply on the roads without being registered. Principal Secretary of the Transport Department, L Venkateswara Lu, has issued a notification stating that this decision has been taken in exercise of powers under section 67(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The maximum fare for e-rickshaws operated as contract vehicles of the State Transport Authority has been fixed at Rs 8.30 per kilometre, up from Rs 5 per kilometer earlier. However, this rate was not set by the government.
