New Delhi: JMM chief Hemant Soren has taken oath as the new CM of Jharkhand. Many great leaders of the Indian alliance attended his oath-taking ceremony. But the most discussed thing was that Hemant took oath alone and his cabinet did not take oath.
What is its political significance?
In fact, there was no consensus between Soren and the Indian alliance leaders regarding the cabinet and due to this, the swearing-in of the cabinet was stalled. Although Soren could have sworn in his party ministers if he wanted to, but he didn’t.
The reason behind this is also profound because if Soren had been sworn into his cabinet, the gap of differences between him and other leaders of the Indian alliance would have deepened, which could have caused losses to JMM in the future.
In reality, Soren wants a consensus on the cabinet because if this does not happen, the opposition will have a sensitive issue where it can corner the Indian alliance. For this reason, Soren has tried to demonstrate solely with his oath that all decisions in the Indian alliance are made by consensus.
Apart from this, it is also said that Soren wanted to stay prominent, so he took oath as CM alone. Before the elections he was involved in many controversies and even had to be arrested and go to jail. The BJP was adopting an offensive attitude towards him.
Which party won how many seats?
It may be noted that the Indi alliance won 56 of 81 seats in the Jharkhand assembly elections. While the NDA, led by the BJP, has 24 seats. Among the parties included in the Indian alliance, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha alone won 34 seats and the Congress 16 seats. RJD won 4 seats and CPI-ML won 2 seats.
