Increase in cold nights in Kashmir
The weather department has said that a weak western disturbance will affect the Union Territory from Friday and there is a possibility of rain in the plains and light snowfall in the higher reaches of the valley. Officials said night temperatures have increased in the Kashmir Valley, but minimum temperatures remained below freezing point in most places. He said the minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at -1 degree Celsius, which is higher than the previous night’s -2.1 degree Celsius.
Qazigund, the gateway town to the valley in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius. The tourist spot of Pahalgam, one of the base camps of the annual Amarnath Yatra, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, the coldest weather season in the valley. Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of zero degree Celsius, while Kupwara recorded minus 0.4 degree Celsius.
When will it snow?
The Meteorological Department said that Jammu and Kashmir is likely to be hit by western disturbances one after another from Friday night. In isolated places, especially in the higher areas of the valley, there is a chance of light rain or snow from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning. Kashmir will experience partly cloudy skies on December 1 with light rain or light snowfall at isolated places in higher elevations.
