Shia Muslims condemn killing of Shias in Kurram district
Peshawar: The death toll from the violence rose to 122 after two people were killed in fresh incidents of shooting despite a ceasefire between Sunni and Shia communities in different parts of Kurram district in Pakistan’s restive northwestern region. Police and hospital officials released this information on Friday.

On Thursday, another shooting occurred between the two communities, in which two people were killed and six injured. Following this violence, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday asked Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to visit the disturbed area.

In the attack on the passenger van, 47 people died. Many passengers who were seriously injured in this attack died during treatment, bringing the death toll in this attack to 57. At least 37 people were killed and several more were injured in the violence that broke out between the two communities in the area. from Bagan Bazaar last Friday and Saturday. Soon after, the violence spread to other places in the district including Balishkhel, Khar, Kali, Junj Alizai and Maqbal.

Police and hospital sources said at least 65 people were killed in the shootings that continued into Friday. Police said that early Sunday the government had imposed a seven-day ceasefire between Shiite and Sunni communities, which was later extended to 10 days. Despite the ceasefire, sporadic clashes between the two communities continued. “The death toll in the communal violence in Kurram ongoing since November 21 has risen to 122 as of Friday, while 145 people have been injured,” police and hospital sources said.
