The Congress is reviewing the defeat in Maharashtra and Haryana. A meeting of the Congress Working Committee was held today in which party president Mallikarjun Kharge spoke candidly to the Congress leaders. Kharge said wherever elections have been held, other INDI Alliance parties have done well in the elections. Governments have also been formed with allies in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand, but the Congress’ performance was not as expected. Kharge said that while the Congress’ performance could be better in the Lok Sabha elections, then it is necessary to think why the Congress’s condition deteriorated in the Assembly elections after five months.

Did infighting bring down Congress?

Kharge said the reality is that factionalism in the party and leaders’ statements against each other caused damage in the elections. He said the environment in Haryana and Maharashtra was in favor of the Congress, but it should be considered why the Congress could not take advantage of the environment. However, the EVM issue has also been included in the resolution passed by the Congress Labor Committee.

Congress will start a movement throughout the country

Later, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal also said that the Congress will look into the defeat in Haryana and Maharashtra. But at the same time, it will also start a movement across the country demanding elections through voting.

Ajay Maken took responsibility for the defeat in Haryana

In today’s meeting, Ajay Maken took responsibility for the defeat in Haryana. He said that as chairman of the selection committee, he made a mistake in giving tickets to the sitting MLAs because most of the sitting MLAs lost the elections.

After this, Mallikarjun Kharge said something important. He also hugged Rahul Gandhi with gestures and said that it is okay to raise issues like caste census, constitution and social justice, but that does not mean we should forget the local issues of electoral states. Elections cannot be based on national leaders and issues; local leadership will have to be at the forefront.
