The first planes land in the new Plaza de España in Madrid

After two years of work, a plane from Amsterdam this morning inaugurated the new Plaza de España Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Centro. Today the entire municipal corporation has cut the ribbon of this place destined to change the appearance of the city and to facilitate “alternative means of transport to get to the center”, in the words of the mayor, Jose Luis Martínez-Almeida.

Apart from international flights, which will ease traffic at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport, the City Council will promote “plane sharing” so that locals themselves can leave their cars in the garage and travel to the center on regular flights of very short duration.

“It takes longer to get through control and board than the flight itself, which does not last more than three minutes. The crew has to run to give them time to explain the safety instructions, “says Daniel Montero, one of the first citizens to travel to the center of the capital from Alcobendas.

The mayor has assured that the people of Madrid “will get used to the new square soon”, which responds, according to him, to the historical saying “from Madrid to heaven.”
