When are the elections?

How many alliances are there?

This time, in the Maharashtra elections, there is a contest between two major alliances, in which the names of Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi are included. The Mahayuti alliance includes the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena (Shinde), NCP (Ajit Pawar), BVA, PJP, MNS, RSP, PWPI and JSS. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar are considered the main leaders in this. There is currently a Mahayuti government in the state, which has 218 seats.

Apart from this, the second alliance is Mahavikas Aghadi Dal, which includes Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar), Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray), CPI (M) and SWP parties. Prominent leaders of this alliance include Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, etc. Currently Mahavikas Aghadi has a total of 77 seats.

What parties are there?

Shiv Sena (Shinde)- Earlier there was only one Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, which is now divided into two parts. Earlier, Shiv Sena’s electoral symbol was the bow and arrow. But then the party split and two parties were formed. A party was formed from Eknath Shinde’s group and the party was named ‘Shiv Sena’ by the Election Commission of India and its symbol is the bow and arrow. With this decision of the Election Commission, the Shinde faction party was recognized as the original party founded by Bala Saheb Thackeray. It is known as Shiv Sena.

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) – When Shiv Sena split into two parties, one faction belonged to Uddhav Thackeray. In this party formed separately from Shiv Sena, the Election Commission assigned the electoral symbol of the torch to the Uddhav faction. Apart from this, it was approved to name the party ‘Shivsena Uddhav Bala Saheb Thackeray’. The Uddhav faction had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections under this name and symbol.

PCN (Ajit Pawar)- Like Shiv Sena, same happened with NCP too. In fact, in July last year, complaining about Sharad Pawar’s leadership, Ajit Pawar broke alliance with majority MLAs and supported the Eknath Shinde-led BJP-Shiv Sena government.

Following this, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar considered the Ajit Pawar-led faction as the real NCP. After this, Ajit Pawar’s group was considered NCP. After this, in the fight over the electoral symbol, the Supreme Court has also said that the electoral symbol of the Nationalist Congress Party will continue to be Ajit Pawar.

In such a situation, the NCP’s electoral symbol is the clock and it is led by Ajit Pawar. The NCP’s electoral symbol is an analogue alarm clock. The clock is blue and has two legs and an alarm button. It is found on the Indian tricolor flag.

PNC (Sharad Pawar)- Among the different factions of the NCP, there is a faction of Sharad Pawar, whose new party has already been formed. Sharad Pawar’s faction’s party is called “Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar” and its electoral symbol is a man blowing a trumpet.

BJP and Congress- Apart from these four parties, the BJP and Congress play important roles in the state. In this, the BJP is in the grand alliance and the Congress is part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi.

Other parties- Apart from this, many types of parties are in the electoral contest, either alone or in alliance.
