Washington: In the United States, the infection by the E. coli bacteria has spread due to the consumption of hamburgers from the famous ‘McDonald’s’ food chain, so at least 49 people in 10 states have become ill and one of them has also died. Giving information, health officials said that 10 infected people have been admitted to the hospital.
Where did the cases come from?
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said an elderly person has died in Colorado from this infection and a child has been admitted to the hospital for serious kidney problems. Cases of this infection were reported in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming and Wisconsin between September 27 and October 11. The highest number of 27 cases was recorded in Colorado, followed by nine cases in Nebraska.
The infected had eaten hamburgers.
According to the CDC, all of the people found infected reported that they had eaten a McDonald’s “quarter-pounder burger” before becoming ill. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration and state health officials are also investigating the case. The specific ingredients associated with the contamination have not been identified, but investigators are focusing on onions and beef.

McDonald’s told the CDC that it had removed chopped onions and “beef patties” from its locations in the affected states. The burger may be temporarily unavailable in affected states. The E. coli bacteria grows in the intestines of animals and is found in the environment. This infection can cause fever, stomach cramps, and bloody diarrhea.
