Hybrid marijuana worth Rs 1.70 crore has been recovered from inside parcels at the Ahmedabad Foreign Post Office in Gujarat. The Ahmedabad City Cyber Crime Branch registered an FIR in this regard and started an investigation.
Providing information about this, the Gujarat Police said packets full of high-quality ganja, hidden in women’s toys and shoes, were recovered from a section of a foreign post office in Ahmedabad.
Police said preliminary investigation indicated the marijuana may have been obtained from the dark web and potentially linked to a foreign country. Officials said on Sunday that 5,670 kg of high-quality ganja packed in 37 packets, with an estimated market value of Rs 1.70 crore, were recovered on Saturday night.
Officials said the cyber crime section and customs department seized these parcels even before they were sent for ‘delivery’. Officials said that after receiving information about drug smugglers using the internet and other social media platforms to purchase contraband from abroad, a joint team of customs and cyber crime departments had started surveillance.
The Cyber Crime Branch detected 37 suspicious packages
“A total of 37 suspicious packets of high quality ganja, weighing 5,670 kg and having a street value of Rs 1,70,10,510 in the international market, were detected,” the cyber crime branch said.
The statement said this banned material was kept hidden in children’s toys and women’s shoes. He said an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the IT Act and efforts are on to nab the accused.
