Another arrest was made in the broad daylight robbery of a jewelery store in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, about two months ago. UP STF arrested Ankit Yadav alias Shekhar, a rewarded criminal involved in the robbery, after 66 days. The police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for him. So far the police have arrested 12 people in this case, while two criminals have been killed.

Police on Tuesday said UP STF arrested a rewarded criminal in connection with the daylight robbery in Sultanpur. He has been identified as Ankit Yadav alias Shekhar. Ankit is the same criminal who entered the shop along with Mangesh Yadav, Anuj Singh and Furkan. He has also been involved in many robbery incidents before. On Monday, the STF arrested him outside Chhivli railway station in Prayagraj based on secret information. In the operation carried out under the leadership of DSP Dharmesh Kumar Shahi, 755 grams of silver jewelery was also seized from the possession of Ankit Yadav.

After his arrest, Ankit Yadav revealed his involvement in the robbery and named Anuj Pratap Singh (deceased), Furkan, Arbaaz and Mangesh Yadav (deceased) as his accomplices. According to the STF statement, Yadav told investigators: “The robbery was carefully planned. After the shop was raided, all the gang members were assigned different tasks.”

He told the police that after distributing the loot, Ankit Yadav continued roaming around many cities to avoid arrest. Ankit Yadav has a history of criminal cases and in many districts cases have been registered against him under various sections including the Arms Act.

The business where the robbery occurred was only 500 meters from the police station. To carry out this incident, masked criminals entered the store with weapons and committed a robbery of such magnitude within 10 to 15 minutes. After that they fled on bicycles and holding guns.

Encounter of two so far, 12 detained

The police had said that the Vipin Singh gang that had carried out this incident had earlier carried out incidents in Lucknow and Surat. The motorcycle used in the robbery was stolen from Jaunpur in which Mangesh Yadav was involved. The bolero was used to escape. In this matter, the police had met Mangesh Yadav on September 5, after which it was made a big issue by SP president Akhilesh Yadav and leaders of other opposition parties, who said that this encounter was fake. Later on September 23, the second accused, Anuj Singh, died following an encounter with the police in Unnao. So far the police have arrested 12 suspects in this case.
