Members of the royal family have won six times from the Bhavnathpur seat. Once again, family members Anant Pratap Dev or Rajendra Prasad Dev are likely to contest the elections.
What is the political equation of Bhavnathpur seat?
In the 2000 assembly elections, Samata Party’s Ramchandra Kesari won from Bhavnathpur. Soon after, when the separate state of Jharkhand was formed, Ramchandra Kesari got the opportunity to become a minister in the Babulal Marandi Marandi government. In 2005, Bhanu Pratap Shahi won contesting the Forward Block ticket and became an MLA for the first time. In 2009, Congress candidate Anant Pratav Dev was elected MLA. In 2014, after leaving Congress, Anant Pratap contested elections on BJP ticket but was defeated by Bhanu Pratap Shahi of Navjawan Sangharsh Morcha. In 2019, Bhanu Pratap Shahi joined the BJP and contested the elections, making the BJP successful in this seat for the first time.
In the first phase, 43 seats will be voted
