Lucknow. Milkipur assembly was earlier the center of the by-elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh, but due to lack of elections there, now the center of politics has become the Karhal seat in Mainpuri. From where SP president Akhilesh Yadav was the MLA. Who left this seat after becoming MP for Kannauj. The Karhal election is going to be very interesting because this seat has come into discussion due to the efforts made by the BJP to extend the board here. Mainpuri has been a bastion of socialists and no other party has been able to gain ground here. Due to the political measures taken by the BJP this time to break this cycle, the results may not be favorable for the BJP, but the elections have definitely become interesting.
In fact, in this by-election, two political giants, Lalu and Mulayam’s son-in-law, contested in the Karhal seat. But look at the game, Mulayam’s son-in-law is fighting from the BJP and Lalu’s son-in-law is contesting on the Samajwadi Party ticket. On one hand, Akhilesh has given the leadership of this assembly to his nephew, considering him his Bharat, while on the other hand, the BJP has expressed confidence in Mulayam Singh’s niece’s husband and fielded him for elections. Actually, there will be no loss in this BJP game, but the Samajwadi Party will definitely suffer losses. Because even if the SP wins this election, one member of the Yadav family will lose and if Tej Pratap loses in the elections, even one member of the Yadav family will lose. But if the BJP manages to win this seat, then the Ayodhya sting that the Samajwadi Party gave to the BJP will be lost. Karhal will do his best to cure that pain by winning the seat. The SP president had decided to contest the assembly elections for the first time in the year 2022. Due to which the assembly seat of Karhal in Mainpuri was chosen. He was elected MLA from Karhal, but resigned from assembly membership after becoming MP from Kannauj in 2024.

BJP used 22-year-old formula

Karhal SP has fielded former MP Tej Pratap Yadav. Who is the grandson of Mulayam Singh Yadav and son-in-law of Lalu Prasad Yadav? In such a situation, the BJP has fielded Anujesh Pratap Yadav, son-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav and brother-in-law of SP MP Dharmendra Yadav, while Avneesh Shakya is the BSP candidate. Thus, the electoral contest for the Karhal seat is between the Saifai family, that is, the Mulayam family. Anujesh Pratap Yadav, son-in-law of the Saifai family, is the husband of Sandhya Yadav, sister of SP MP Dharmendra Yadav. Sandhya has been the President of Mainupri District Panchayat from 2015 to 2020 and Anujesh has been a member of Firozabad District Panchayat. By fielding Anujesh, the BJP is trying to steal votes from Yadav. If there is a split in Yadav votes, then political tension may increase for the SP.

Political equation of Karhal seat

The Karhal assembly seat of Mainpuri district came into being politically after delimitation in the year 1956. Since it is a Yadav dominated seat, most of the MLAs have been elected from the Yadav community even before the formation from the SP and before that, only leaders close to Mulayam Singh had won from the Karhal seat. In 1957, Praja Socialist Party’s struggler Nathu Singh Yadav became the first MLA, followed by Swatantra Party in 1962, 1967 and 1969, Bharatiya Kranti Dal in 1974 and Nathu Singh won on Janata Party ticket in 1977, but in 1980, Shivmangal Singh of the Congress won. He had recorded victory. Due to the Karhal political equation, Baburam Yadav’s dominance continued from 1985 to 1996. Baburam Yadav had won three elections on the Janata Dal ticket. When the late Mulayam Singh Yadav formed the SP, Baburam also joined him and as an SP candidate in 1993 and 1996, Baburam had won from Karhal seat. After this, SP only lost the assembly elections in 2002 and from then till now SP’s dominance continues in Karhal seat. In the 2002 assembly elections, Anil Yadav contested on the SP ticket, while the BJP gave the ticket to Sobran Singh Yadav and made the Karhal election battle one of Yadav versus Yadav. Sobran Singh Yadav left the SP and joined the BJP. He was aware of both the weakness and strength of the SP in the Karhal seat, from Mulayam Singh Yadav to Shivpal. Yadav had worked day and night in Karhal to make Anil Yadav win, but the biggest tilt of Yadav’s votes was with BJP’s Sobran Yadav.
