Lahore: Christian leaders have complained to the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan and demanded action against the venomous words of Indian fugitive Zakir Naik. Pakistan’s Christian leaders have written letters to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, saying action should be taken against Islamic preacher Zakir Naik for making inappropriate comments about Christianity. We told you that Zakir Naik had arrived in Pakistan on a month-long visit at the invitation of the Pakistani government. During this period, Naik had given “controversial” lectures in cities such as Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore.
It is important to mention that this is his first visit to Pakistan in the last three decades. Previously, Zakir had come to Pakistan in 1992. Naik left India in 2016 amid allegations of money laundering and inciting extremism through hate speech. He was granted permanent residency in Malaysia by the previous government led by Mahathir Mohamad. The senior bishop of the Synod-Church of Pakistan, Dr. Azad Marshall, and other Christian leaders wrote letters to Sharif and Zardari saying that Naik, who came as a state guest, making adverse comments about Christians and their religion was condemnable.
Zakir’s poisonous words
Christian leaders have accused Zakir Naik of using poisonous language. In addition to this, it was requested that action be taken against him and effective measures be taken to prevent such things in the future. “Dr Zakir Naik’s public speeches have sparked anger in the Christian community as he has openly questioned the authenticity of our religion, made inappropriate comments about our holy scriptures and made false statements,” the letter said.
