In view of the situation, Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Odisha CM Mohan Majhi over phone and assured him of all possible help. Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is also keeping an eye on the situation and will remain in Nabanna throughout the night.

In fact, Cyclone Dana is the second cyclonic storm to hit the Indian coast in the last two months. At the beginning of August, Cyclone ‘Asana’ had affected the area. However, Dana is more powerful than Storm Asna, whose impact will occur at a distance of up to 400 kilometers from the impact site. 7 states will be affected by this. Due to Cyclonic Storm Dana, there is torrential rain in the affected areas of Odisha and West Bengal. The governments of both states have moved thousands of people to other safe places.

According to the Meteorological Department, its effect will also be visible in many areas of Uttar Pradesh. There may be light rain and lightning in the eastern part of UP, especially in the surrounding districts including Varanasi, Chandauli, Jaunpur, Ballia, Azamgarh, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur and Ghazipur. Due to this, a slight drop in temperature will also be observed. Due to this, the temperature will drop even further with the beginning of the month of November, which will also increase the cold. This means that due to this cyclonic storm, the cold will increase in UP. Similarly, many districts of Bihar could also be affected. The states worst affected by this storm are Odisha, Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Its effect will also be visible in UP.

Preparations begin to face cyclonic storm

In view of the cyclone in Puri, Odisha, the Meteorological Department has ordered fishermen to stay away from the sea. NDRF teams are present to deal with any situation and people are kept away from the sea. At the same time, Railways is also on alert in the face of the cyclonic storm. Dozens of trains have been canceled on Odisha and Bengal routes. A meeting of administrative officials was also held in South 24 Parganas in connection with Cyclone Dana.

In fact, the cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ that emerged in the Bay of Bengal, which has endangered the lives of thousands of people, is all set to wreak havoc from Odisha to West Bengal. The landing process will last 5 hours

On October 21, Storm Dana, which originated in the Bay of Bengal, will land near Dhamra port and Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha. Its landfall process will last 5 hours and it will pass through the northern part of Odisha at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour. Due to Dana effect, many places including Bhadrak, Kendrapara may receive rainfall of more than 30 cm i.e. 12 inches. In the rest of the coastal areas there is a possibility of rain of up to 20 cm.

In Odisha, the maximum impact of storm Dana will occur in Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Baleshwar, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, where red alert has been issued due to heavy rain. There is an orange alert for Puri, Khorda, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal and Kendojhar districts.

The cyclone received its name ‘Dana’ because

Let us tell you that the word ‘Dana’ has been taken from the Arabic language. Its meaning is ‘generosity’. Qatar has chosen the name of this storm. In fact, since 2000, the list of storm names has been prepared in advance. Which is prepared by a group of many countries like India-Maldives-Myanmar-Pakistan. Naming cyclones based on regional words or names helps promote awareness and cultural exchange between countries affected by storms. Furthermore, this also strengthens the communication and alert system.

Red flags have been put up on the shores of the Puri Sea as a warning. Roadside businesses have been closed. There has been a ban on booking hotels for 4 days in Puri. Jagannath temple and Konark Sun temple have also been closed as a precautionary measure. Around 3,000 tourists were turned back before the storm. The airport has also been closed. Precautionary measures were taken several hours before the storm hit coastal areas of Odisha. NDRF teams have been deployed wherever there is a possibility of storm.

Schools in Odisha and Bengal to remain closed

All schools in 14 districts of Odisha will remain closed till Friday. After the storm hits, a high wave warning has been issued in coastal areas of Odisha. Coast Guard, NDRF and Navy teams are on alert. Makeshift relief camps have been set up in many places.

Like Odisha, the impact of Cyclone Dana will also be seen in the coastal areas of West Bengal. Thousands of people have also been sent to safe places in West Bengal. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she will stay in Nabanna overnight in view of Storm Dana. The impact of Storm Dana will also be seen in West Bengal. Therefore, the state government has used all its forces to evacuate people from the affected areas.

Its impact will be visible up to 400 kilometers away from the impact site of the cyclonic storm. After the storm arrives, winds will blow at a speed of 90 to 120 kilometers per hour in the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal. Apart from this, there will also be heavy rainfall in many districts of Odisha and West Bengal. Amid the danger of storms and heavy rains, a control room has been set up in Howrah. The West Bengal government has ordered to keep all schools in nine districts closed.

Thousands evacuated to safe places in Bengal

The Bengal administration has advised fishermen not to enter the sea. Fishermen who had already gone to sea have been called to return. People are being alerted through microphones in coastal areas. Nearly thousands of people have been evacuated to safe areas before the storm hits.

Apart from Digha, a tourist destination in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district, hotel owners in Mandarmani, Tajpur and Shankarpur were instructed to vacate their hotels 12 hours before the storm hit. The government has completed preparations to deal with Dana. Control rooms have been opened in several districts. In addition, disaster management teams have been kept ready. Work continues to evacuate thousands of people from coastal areas and take them to relief camps built in safe areas.
