Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju left for a two-day visit to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. According to sources, on October 31, both leaders will celebrate Diwali with the soldiers deployed on the India-China border. This is the first visit after the India-China disengagement agreement in Ladakh, under which both countries will revert to old methods of patrolling along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.
The Tawang region on the Yangtze is a major center of tension between the two countries. In 2022, a clash between the Indian army and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army occurred in this area, in which soldiers on both sides were injured. The Indian Army stopped the patrols of Chinese troops in the Yangtze region, thereby strengthening India’s control in the region.

Both countries are said to be considering a proposal under which the Chinese military may be allowed to patrol designated areas. Its objective is to reduce tension in the disputed area and ensure a balanced presence of both countries. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chovana Main will welcome the Indian Air Force’s Uttarakhand War Memorial Car Rally at Tawang on October 30. This visit by the Minister of Defense aims to raise the morale of soldiers involved in protecting the borders.
Earlier, on the occasion of Vijayadashami, the Defense Minister celebrated the festival with the soldiers deployed at Bum La Pass and praised them for protecting the border under difficult circumstances. Singh stressed on strengthening the country’s security and promoting production of indigenous defense equipment. He also visited the 4 Corps Headquarters located at Tezpur, Assam and took stock of the operational preparedness of the troops.

Let us tell you about Bum La Pass, which connects Tsona County in Tibet and Tawang District in India. It has been functioning as a trading post between Arunachal Pradesh and Tibet since 2006. This place is also historically important because the Battle of Bum La took place here during the 1962 India-China War.
