Manish Tiwari and Shehzad Poonawala
The Election Commission responded to Congress’ complaint about EVMs during voting in the recent assembly elections in Haryana and rejected the allegations. The Election Commission sent a 1,642-page response to Congress and said that the allegations made by the party were baseless and that the party should avoid such irresponsible accusations. Now statements have come out from Congress and BJP leaders in this regard.
Congress leader Manish Tewari said: How is it possible that when the machine remains switched off for the entire day and then opens again to count after a few days, it has a 99 per cent battery life? This completely defies any law of science that a machine, an EVM, can be in use all day from 8 am to 6 pm or 9 am to 5 pm and once its battery life is 99 percent . The machine is off. It is kept in a vault and after a few days it is taken out and the votes are counted.

Demand for elections by ballot
He further said, “I don’t understand why ECI is so supportive of EVMs. The fact is that under Article 324, ICI has the responsibility to hold free and fair elections. What do they care whether the elections will be held through EVM or through ballot papers? All over the world without exception, even in countries where EVMs were invented even before India, everyone has gone back to ballots because democracy is too valuable to be left to technology. Not only should the Election Commission seriously consider this. “Rather, take the initiative to get the country back to ballots.”

BJP attacked Congress
BJP leader Shehzad Poonawala said the Election Commission of India is another constitutional body that has reprimanded the Congress Party for its irresponsible and baseless allegations. Whenever the Congress Party wins an election, be it in Karnataka or Telangana, it considers the EVMs and Election Commission to be fine, but when it loses the election, it starts misusing constitutional institutions. Similarly, if a case is won in the judiciary, then the judiciary and democracy are fine. Otherwise, democracy and the judiciary are in danger. In Haryana, he made these allegations after the elections. In Maharashtra and Jharkhand, he is criticizing EVMs even before the elections.
