Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
These days people in Pakistan are fiercely cursing China. In Pakistan, China is described as opportunistic. This is the same country where China was praised. Where their rulers are proud to go to Beijing, but now Chinese President Xi Jinping has diverted his attention from Pakistan? When Chinese President Xi Jinping met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at BRICS, the snake began to coil around Pakistan’s chest. What happened so that in Pakistan, where until yesterday China was praised, now in the same country it is branded as opportunist?
The BRICS summit held in Kazan, Russia also attracted the attention of the people of Pakistan. There are two big reasons for this. Firstly, in this summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Jinping after a long time. The second reason is that Pakistan was completely ignored in this show.
It is sometimes used to compose ballads in praise of China.
After this meeting, Pakistanis have started to feel that China is not focusing on them but on improving its relations with India. This is the same Pakistan where its rulers used to sing ballads in praise of China. Recently, after the SCO summit, the whole world saw how Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had fallen in love with China.
Pakistanis feel they have been misled by China. Pakistanis feel that although China is our true friend, Xi Jinping’s warmth towards Prime Minister Modi on the BRICS indicates something else. Although a year ago, when Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Hakar went to Beijing, he too expressed unwavering confidence in China, now the public is saying something else.
Pakistan was not even asked in the BRICS
Pakistan’s pain is also that we spread the rug to welcome China, but that is not helping us overtly on the global stage. Understanding it this way, this time 13 countries such as Kazakhstan, Algeria and even Uganda became dialogue partners in the BRICS. Many of these countries are smaller than Pakistan, but in the BRICS they were asked and ignored. Pakistanis feel that despite China’s presence, they have no respect left in the BRICS, while Shahbaz Sharif says so.
Pakistani expert Qamar Cheema said Xi Jinping’s projects such as BRI, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, should be expanded. Through this, the focus should be on roads, rail and digital infrastructure. The Belt and Road will be better for the region.
The Chinese think we should improve our relations with India. This is not the time for us to continue fighting with India over Pakistan or sour relations. Therefore, he thought that he should resolve the bilateral problems with India and see what happens with Pakistan and what does not happen.
Is there a visible decline in China’s friendly behavior?
Thanks to China’s strength, Pakistan walked around with a full chest and used to wink at India. That China has also understood that the benefit lies in working together with India and not with Pakistan. China has also accepted that India is an emerging superpower. Become economically powerful. Perhaps the same fear is worrying Pakistanis too, which is why they are starting to see a fault in China’s friendly behavior.
In fact, China has now understood India’s global image and diplomatic power very well. He knows that even when there are two war fronts open in the world, all countries from East to West and from North to South expect peace only from India. If we talk about Western Asia, India’s friend is Israel and also Iran. The Indian equation holds even amidst the hail of gunpowder in this region.
India’s position on the war between Russia and Ukraine is very clear
If we look at Russia and Ukraine, the scene is similar there too. It is India that sits in front of Putin and gives the message of peace and then Zelensky also looks towards India with hopeful eyes. Even India has good relations with the United States, which opposes Russia.
So far, China has failed to create that image on a diplomatic and global level. Therefore, he has also started to feel that if he wants to advance in the future, it is better to stay in India. This can be called China’s 360-degree diplomatic turn.
In such a situation, one can only say that China has lost its trust in Pakistan or has realized that the benefit is in living with India. Not with any country that supports terrorism. Maybe Pakistan will be stunned to see this color of the dragon. It doesn’t matter what the rulers there say.
