ranchi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma on Wednesday said that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) believes in dynastic politics, which is why it has fielded party leader Hemant Soren, his wife Kalpana Soren and his brother Basant Soren. In fact, JMM on Wednesday released its first list of 35 candidates for the Jharkhand Assembly elections, which includes the names of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his wife Kalpana Soren and his brother Basant. The Assam Chief Minister has targeted the party regarding this list.
‘JMM does dynasty politics’
Sharma is the Bharatiya Janata Party’s co-in-charge for the Jharkhand elections. Referring to family ties between the candidates, he said “the JMM candidate list clearly reflects dynasty politics.” He taunted that the JMM does not have diverse candidates and the BJP can field additional candidates if needed. He was referring to the leaders who recently joined JMM from the BJP.
Voting for the 81-member state assembly will take place on November 13 and 20 and counting of votes will take place on November 23.
Members of the Soren family will contest the elections in these seats
Among the 35 JMM candidates, CM Hemant Soren’s brother Basant Soren will contest from Dumka. Basant Soren had earlier defeated BJP minister Lois Marandi by 6,842 votes. Dumka is considered the stronghold of JMM. Hemant Soren is the sitting MLA from Barhet constituency of Sahibganj district. In the 2019 assembly elections, he defeated Simon Malto of the BJP from this area by 25,740 votes. His wife Kalpana Soren defeated BJP rival Dilip Kumar Verma by 27,149 votes in the Gandey by-election. (with language inputs)
