Voting for the presidential elections will take place in the United States on November 5. In this, current Vice President Kamala Harris is the candidate of the Democratic Party, while former President Donald Trump is competing for the Republican Party. The presidential debate has taken place, but the mutual accusations and counter-accusations continue. In this episode, Harris called Trump a fascist. This is a very big word. Adolf Hitler of Germany and Benito Mussolini of Italy continued to be called fascists.
But what is fascism? Can Trump take any legal action over his comparison to the world’s most notorious dictators?
The era of fascism began in Italy.
It is a political ideology and system of government that developed in the early 20th century. In this, emphasis is placed on having complete loyalty to a leader, a party and a country. If someone refuses to do so, political and military force is also used to suppress them.
The Italian dictator Mussolini started it. At the behest of the leader of the National Fascist Party, a fascist militia was formed in October 1922 and marched through the streets of Rome shouting slogans. Anyone who protested was eliminated. This ideology later arrived in Germany. Hitler’s militia also worked along similar lines. But there it was called National Socialism. From here, fascism spread to Spain and other countries.
Fascism – Derived from the Latin word fascis, meaning an ax in a bundle of wood. It was a symbol of strength and unity in ancient Rome. Mussolini made it the symbol of his party, after which the word fascism began to be used. In this, the emphasis is not only on a party or a leader, but on many other things. As only the leader of the party will take all the important decisions of the country. It will even control the basic desires of the public. In this, the ruler has control over the media and even over reading and writing.
Now this term has become broader. It is used not only in politics, but in any field where the leader wants to intervene in all decisions. For example, the decision to close during Covid was considered a fascist decision in the United States and also in other countries. It is said that an opinion poll was going to be carried out before the closure.
Why is Harris cornering Trump?
The vice president had already been calling Trump undemocratic. They allege that Trump may also need military help to silence his political opponents. Trump’s tough attitude toward his opponents also served as fuel for this accusation.
Trump spoke out against these news channels that, according to him, do not broadcast news. Especially in the last elections this happened on many occasions. Proud Boys are also a group among Trump supporters, who control people through violence. This is not a political group, but a group of young people. Trump had also spoken out in his favor in the last election. In January 2021, a group of Trump supporters rioted in Washington DC because they suspected fraud in the vote, so Trump lost.
Can a case also be filed for accusations made during the election season?
There is currently no big fuss over Harris’ comment. However, if Trump or his supporters wish, they can file a case against the other side. There are also many such cases. For example, tension increased between Trump and Hillary Clinton in 2016, when both made many serious accusations against each other.
Trump subsequently filed a defamation case against The New York Times, in which he was accused of colluding with Russia by quoting Hillary. However, during election campaigns, leaders speak cautiously and often only say what has been said before to stay safe. Even after this, if someone files a case, the work is done apologetically. No major legal action has yet been mentioned in this regard.
