The race for retention has intensified ahead of the mega auction of IPL 2025. The deadline to submit the retention list to all IPL franchises is October 31. In such a situation, all teams are busy in their respective preparations. Meanwhile, big news related to the Gujarat Titans is emerging. In fact, Gujarat Titans are going to take a big cut in the salary of their captain Shubhman Gill. Gill has also taken a pay cut. Gill is believed to be the second player retained by IPL franchise Gujarat Titans ahead of the October 31 deadline. An IPL source gave this great information.
As per the report, the first player retained for the Gujarat franchise will be star player Rashid Khan. After this, the team can retain Gill, Sai Sudarshan and two uncapped players, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan. In the mega auction taking place next month, the franchise will have the opportunity to retain one more player through the Right to Match card. Gill is being considered the next captain of the Indian cricket team.
This is the rule regarding IPL retention
An IPL source said that Gill decided to take the pay cut so that he could retain key players in the team and build a stronger team. According to the IPL retention policy released before the mega auction, if the first player is retained, the team will suffer a loss of Rs 18 crore out of the increased amount of Rs 120 crore. On retaining the second, Rs 14 million will be deducted and on retaining the third, Rs 11 million will be deducted. For uncapped players, the team will have to spend Rs 4 million each. If a team retains five players who play international cricket, Rs 75 million will be deducted from its total purse of Rs 120 million in the auction. The mega auction is likely to be held abroad in the last week of November.
Gujarat Titans became IPL champions in 2022 but failed to win the title in 2023. They were runners-up in IPL 2023. Before IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya left GT and went to Mumbai Indians. After this, the command of the team was handed over to Shubman Gill. The team’s performance last season was very poor. The team finished eighth in the table.
