This is a normal seat. Baghmara is an assembly constituency located in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand. It is part of the Giridih Lok Sabha constituency.

The major parties in Baghmara assembly constituency are Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Janata Dal (United) and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik), Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JMM). As of here, BJP’s Dulu Mahato is currently the MLA from Baghmara seat. Dulu Mahato won the 2019 assembly elections. The Baghmara assembly constituency has significant political importance, especially in the tribal-dominated areas of the state.

According to Election Commission data, there were 1,79,876 voters in Baghmara constituency during the 2019 assembly elections. Of them, 87,677 were men and 75,042 were women. 435 postal votes were cast in the constituency. The total number of voters in Baghmara constituency in 2014 was 1,54,074. Of them, 96,087 voters were men and 83,208 were women. There were 581 valid postal votes in the electoral district. The number of service voters in Baghmara in 2014 was 485 (474 men and 11 women).
BJP fielded Shatrughan Mahato in the electoral field
As Jharkhand Assembly elections 2024 are divided into two phases. Here the first phase of elections is on November 13 and the second phase of elections is on November 20. Voting will be held in the second phase i.e. on November 20 in Baghmara assembly constituency. The results of the Assembly elections will be known on November 23. In the 2024 assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Shatrughan Mahato from here, while the Congress has fielded Jaleshwar Mahato. Other parties have not yet announced the names of their candidates.

If we look at the 2019 Baghmara Assembly seat election results, the last time the Bharatiya Janata Party won here. BJP candidate Dulu Mahato won the seat by a narrow margin of 824 votes (0.46%). He received 78,291 votes with 43.71% of the vote. Dulu Mahato had defeated Congress candidate Jaleshwar Mahato. The congressional candidate had obtained 77,467 votes (43.25%). Subhash Ray of JD(U) came third with 6,528 votes (3.64%). Independent candidate Binayak Kumar Gupta finished fourth with just 3,527 votes (1.97%). The total number of candidates in the 2019 assembly elections was 1,79,134. The vote here was 62.64%.
BJP defeated JDU candidate in 2014
Also in the 2014 Jharkhand Assembly elections, BJP candidate Dulu Mahato won this seat. He received 86,549 votes with 51.65% of the vote. JD(U) candidate Jaleshwar Mahato secured 56,980 votes (32.78%) and came second. Dulu defeated Jaleshwar Mahato by a margin of 29,623 votes (17.66%). The total number of votes obtained in this constituency was 167662. In 2014 the voting percentage was 64.48. JMM candidate Suraj Mahato came third with 8,053 votes (4.80%) and JVM candidate Sitaram Bhuiya came fourth with 2,670 votes (1.59%).
