Waqf Board.
The debate over the Waqf Board Act has intensified in Vijaypur district of Karnataka. The district administration has decided to include the lands of some farmers in the Waqf. Farmers are opposed to this. The government statement said that Hunnara will add 1,200 acres of land in Honwada village of Tikota taluk to the Waqf Board.
However, farmers say this is our ancestral property. Farmers in Vijaypur district submitted a memorandum to district in-charge minister MB Patil after some villagers received notices claiming that their land is the property of the Waqf Board.
The dispute concerns 1,200 acres of land in Tikota taluk village of Honwada, where farmers allege that the authorities are trying to bring these lands under the religious institution Shah Aminuddin Dargah.

1,200 acres of land declared property of Waqf Board
In the purported notice sent by the Tehsildar, the officials said that as per government records, the land belongs to the Waqf Board.Housing, Waqf and Minority Welfare Department Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan held a meeting with Waqf officials earlier this month to address encroachment on Waqf properties. Following these discussions, authorities took steps to eliminate illegal encroachments, resulting in the issuance of controversial notices.
The farmers said that there is no Dargah of this name in our village and fields. It is mentioned in government records as Aminuddin Dargah. In about 43 survey numbers of Ishtar Made Honwada village, farmers have expressed their anger over the fact that 1200 acres of land of this village will be included in the Waqf Board.
Farmers protest against notice, will protest
Tukaram Nalode, a farmer from Honwada village, said that the notice said that this land belonged to Shah Aminuddin Dargah, but this Dargah has not existed for centuries and our family has owned this land for generations. He said around 41 farmers have received notices, asking them to provide property records, but we are their real owners. If the government does not remove these notices, we will protest on a large scale.
However, Waqf Board officials said the notices were based on a gazette notification of 1974. An official of the Vijaypur Waqf Board says the state government had marked the land as Waqf property and it was registered in the bulletin. However, some notices were sent to farmers in error. If they have valid land records, the Waqf Board will not take any action against them.
