Protesting doctors demanding justice in the doctor rape and murder case that took place at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have come up with a new strategy. A massive conference was organized on Saturday, five days after lifting the fast unto death, to plan the next step in getting Mamata's government to heed their demands.
The four-hour-long mass conference held at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was attended by doctors from various government medical establishments and civic representatives. Here, apart from the discussion on the culture of bullying in government hospitals, the steps to be taken to put pressure on the state government to meet their demands are also discussed.
Aniket Mahato, one of the agitating doctors, said: “We have called this mass conference to demand justice for our sister who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital on August 9.” Another doctor, Debashish Halder, said: “The protest started by some doctors has now taken a broader form. We know the truth of the entire case.”
On October 21, the agitated young doctors ended their fast unto death after meeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He had assured that he would consider their demands. On Saturday, the junior doctors also alleged that an attempt was made to conceal the truth behind the rape and murder of a doctor on duty at RG Kar Hospital.
An attempt was made to protect those responsible for this incident. Dr Kinjal Nanda said: “We wanted to know what the truth was and that is why we demanded a masterful investigation. There has been an attempt to suppress the truth. We are not only seeking justice. We want to do it, but we also want to clean up the system.” After this heinous incident, the junior doctor went on strike.
Last week, the agitated doctors arrived at the State Secretariat to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This meeting was held as part of an effort to resolve the current impasse after this heinous incident. During this, the doctors put forward other demands including justice for the victim, removal of Health Secretary NS Nigam and increasing safety of healthcare workers. The Chief Minister assured this.
We tell you that the CBI investigating this case has filed the charge sheet. Aaj Tak exclusively learned the details of this charge sheet, in which civic volunteer Sanjay Roy is said to have committed this crime. The semen sample extracted from the victim's body was sent to the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory for analysis. It has been revealed that the semen belongs to Sanjay Roy, who is currently in CBI custody. He was arrested earlier by the police.
CBI claimed that the CFSL report confirmed that the semen belongs to Sanjay Roy. According to the chargesheet, on the basis of numerous physical evidence, circumstantial evidence and forensic reports, it is proven that Sanjay Roy has committed this crime. The Kolkata Police arrested him within 24 hours of this incident. The charge sheet said that the hair found at the crime scene was sent to the laboratory for analysis and matched that of the main accused, Sanjay Roy.
