10-year-old Deepika Patel, who lives in Nalasopara, next to Mumbai, has been fighting for her life for the last 8 days. The girl received a strong slap under the ear from her teacher during her class, so within a few days an infection spread to her right ear and, due to critical brain damage, the girl’s condition is now critical. Deepika, a Class 5 student, has been admitted to the ICU of Sion’s KJ Somaiya Hospital with critical brain damage, tetanus and breathing problems. Currently, the innocent 10-year-old girl is on a medical ventilator.
A slap for laughing in class.
On October 5, Deepika’s father lodged a complaint against teacher Ratna Singh, 20, at the Tulinj police station. The girl’s father claimed in the complaint that the teacher had slapped the girl for fun in class. According to the teacher, she laughed and made mischief in class. After this, 10-year-old Deepika started having earache, returned home and told the whole story to her mother. Note that the teacher’s name is said to be Ratna Singh.

According to the complaint, his mother went to the teaching center and spoke to teacher Ratna about this. Teacher Ratna told her that Deepika was having fun and bothering other children, so she slapped her. After this, her mother and Deepika were taken to Balaji Clinic in Tulinj, where she was given medicines. When they returned home in the evening, Patel noticed a swelling near Deepika’s ear. After this he was taken to the nearby Sanjeevani Hospital, where he was treated.
After a few days my health worsened.
According to the girl’s father, after a few days her health began to deteriorate further, so she could not even open her mouth to eat. After this, the family’s worries increased and they took the girl to a government hospital on a bicycle, but due to lack of ICU beds there, the girl was admitted to KJ Somaiya Hospital, where the daily expenditure is around 25,000 rupees. The family says they cannot afford this expense every day and they did not give us help even for tuition. Currently the family has the help of some social organization.
The family demanded justice
The family has demanded that action be taken against the tutor teacher and his training centre. Following the father’s complaint, the police have registered a case against the teacher under the Juvenile Justice Act and the Child Protection Act and are investigating further.
