Disconnection of the border between India and China: Local military commanders of India and China will meet today (Thursday) at Depsang and Demchok on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. (Friday) Patrolling will begin at both locations from tomorrow, this will be discussed at today’s meeting. Yesterday the withdrawal and verification in Depsang was completed, but due to bad weather the aerial verification in Demchok could not be carried out. The aerial verification will be carried out today in Demchok.

Withdrawal in Depsang and Demchok

As per the India-China agreement, disengagement and verification at Depsang and Demchok were to be completed by October 29. On Tuesday night, tents and temporary structures were removed from both locations. The place where the vehicles and soldiers were to withdraw has also been completed. The withdrawal and verification were occurring simultaneously. Aerial verification using unmanned aerial vehicles was completed on Tuesday in Depsang.

The situation prior to April 2020 will be restored.

In such a situation, patrols will start from Thursday i.e. October 31. During this period, there will be no joint patrolling of soldiers, that is, soldiers from both countries will not patrol together. With a short time interval, soldiers from both countries can go out on patrol on the same day. There will be talks on this issue also when local military commanders of the Indian and Chinese armies meet today. Soldiers from both countries will now be able to patrol in all places where they patrolled before April 2020. This will restore the situation before April 2020 in Depsang and Demchok.
