Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had alerted people about the incidents of digital arrest and cyber fraud in the show ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

What is digital arrest?

Digital arrest is a new form of cyber fraud, in which scammers posing as law enforcement officers threaten people via audio or video calls and take them as digital hostages under the false pretense of arresting them.

Earlier this week, India’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) shared a list of more than a dozen ways scammers commit online fraud in the country. This also includes “digital arrest” to defraud people by stealing their money and personal data.
