The National Security Council (NSC) has called on Israeli citizens to immediately leave the Gulf of Arugam and the southern and western coastal areas of Sri Lanka. On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the National Security Council (NSC) issued a warning against travel to Sri Lanka due to terrorist threats in tourist and coastal areas. He said the travel alert for the Gulf of Arugam and southern and western coastal areas of Sri Lanka (including the cities of Ahangama, Galle, Hikkaduwa and Weligama) has been raised to level 4.
NSC said we recommend leaving these areas immediately. For those currently living in these areas, we recommend leaving the country or at least traveling to the capital, Colombo. He said there is more presence of local security forces.
The NSC said the travel alert for the rest of Sri Lanka has been raised to level 3. The NSC said we recommend that Israelis planning to travel to Sri Lanka postpone any non-essential travel to the country. If traveling to Sri Lanka, avoid areas for which Level 4 travel alerts have been issued.
Do not let it be known that you are an Israeli citizen.
The NSC has stressed that Israelis living in Sri Lanka should exercise more caution. Especially when you are in public, avoid openly displaying anything that identifies you as Israeli, such as T-shirts with Hebrew writing or any symbols that reveal your religion or nationality. Israeli citizens should avoid gathering in public places where security measures are not in place. Report any suspicions or unusual incidents to local law enforcement. Israeli security forces are in close contact with Sri Lankan security forces through related organizations and are following developments.
