The Prime Minister said that to protect yourself from digital risk scams, let me tell you three steps of digital security. These three steps are: “Stop, think and act.”

As soon as the call comes, ‘wait’, don’t panic, stay calm, don’t take any hasty steps, don’t give your personal details to anyone, if possible take a screenshot and make a recording.

The second step is “thinking”: no government agency makes such threats over the phone, nor does it make inquiries via video calls, nor does it demand money in this way. If you are afraid, then understand that something is wrong.

Step 3 – ‘Take Action’. Call the National Cyber Helpline 1930, report it, inform the family and the police, keep the evidence.

What is digital arrest scam?

Cyber scammers use different tricks to defraud people. One of these methods is the digital arrest scam. In this case, the victim is said to be intimidated, threatened and even arrested. In the end your bank account is emptied.

This is how digital arrest begins

The digital arrest scam begins with a call coming from an unknown number, which can be an audio or video call. The victim receives a call or video call from an unknown number. After this, they are informed about a fake package, closure of a mobile number or a case of fake money laundering. After this, they are shown a false arrest or false arrest warrant and referred for investigation.

In the digital arrest scam, the victim is told that he will have to come to Delhi, Mumbai or any other big city to cooperate in the investigation. When the victim says that she lives far away, they ask her to come by video call and cooperate in the investigation from home. This is digital arrest.

After this, in the process of fake investigation, the victim is intimidated and threatened and is asked for important details like Aadhaar card, bank details and OTP, etc. In digital arrest scam, money is also demanded from the victim and in panic, the victim transfers the money.
