Kendrapada: A government employee in Odisha claimed that she had been denied leave during childbirth, after which her baby died in the womb. The matter pertains to the office located in Kendrapara district. The employee claimed that the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) refused to grant her leave during the pain of childbirth, due to which her child died in the womb. According to the information received, the incident occurred on October 25, while the matter came to light on Tuesday.

Ignored when I asked for permission

The victim Varsha Priyadarshini (26) said she works as an employee of the Women and Child Development Department in Derabish block of Kendrapara district. According to the woman, she was in the seventh month of pregnancy. While working, he suddenly felt intense pain. The woman alleged that she asked CDPO Snehlata Sahu and other officials to take her to the hospital, but her request was ignored. The woman, Varsha Priyadarshini, also claimed that Snehlatha misbehaved with her. Later, a relative of the woman took her to a private hospital in Kendrapara, where the ultrasound revealed that the child had died in the womb.

Written complaint before the district magistrate

The woman claimed that her son died due to mental torture and negligence of the CDPO. Following this, Varsha Priyadarshini filed a written complaint before the district magistrate. In the written complaint, the woman demanded strict action against CDPO Snehlata Sahu. Kendrapara additional district magistrate Neelu Mahapatra said, “After receiving the complaint, the district administration directed the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) to investigate the matter and submit a report. We will take action after receiving the report”.

Deputy CM expressed concern

After getting information about the entire matter, state deputy chief minister Pravati Parida expressed concern over the incident. In a post on social media platform Responding to the woman’s allegations, the CDPO said it had no knowledge of Varsha’s suffering. Currently, DSWO of Kendrapara Manorama Swain said, “A committee will be formed to investigate the matter. After that we will present our report.” (entrance-agency)
